Those who use the Numark NS7 would never lower themselves to using NS6, reason being, motorized jog wheels.
Those in NS7 nation feared the thought that Numark would abandon the motorized platters over the touch sensitive
ones found on the NS6. But when Numark released the NS7 II, the sounds of relief and exaltation by the vast NS7
nation was heard throughout the world.
So Pioneer DJ teases us before the NAMM show and when they finally unveil the product it’s just some already released product with a new paint job. Yes, of course they look beautiful. But is a paint job enough to make you want to go out and purchase a product which was already available?
These shiny babies are a limited edition and will only be available to those with enough shiny coin to afford the heavy price tag.
I’m quite curious to how many economically endowed DJs will be ready to fork it over, but if you got the need for shine and the mula to spare, then Pioneer DJ has a paint job for you
DJay for the Mac is getting serious and is

Pricing policy on Serato DJ????
Yes, we nailed it. We predicted a price drop on the upgrade to Serato DJ and here it is. Now Serato DJ upgrade is $129 U.S dollars. While this upgrade price drop is nice, it brings up a lot of questions about the pricing of Serato DJ.
It seems as if Serato doesn’t have a clear plan on the price of Serato DJ. They have offered sales on it, only to offer better sale prices days later, leaving many who purchased it at the higher price very unhappy.
So how will it go? Will having Serato DJ included with a purchased DJ Controller or upgrading to Serato DJ result in free future updates? So far updates have been free, but nothing in the Serato website mentions purchasing rights. So what you do you think? Are future updates free? We have seen a few responses about future update policies on Serato DJ, but the Serato team has nicely danced around the question without answering it.
What does Serato tell you? Let us know.
Serato thanks you for purchasing an itch based controller. Not !!!
Talk about some shit. Not too long ago you purchased an itch based controller which you paid nearly one thousand dollars. Instead of Serato rewarding you for investing in an itch based controller, they turn around and offer support for their newest software to those who purchased less expensive DJ controllers which were not itch based – the Denon DJ MC2000, Numark Mixtrack Pro and Pioneer DDJ-ERGO-V.
Now we do understand that Serato wants to eagerly make the $199 for these users to upgrade to Serato DJ, but that’s no excuse for throwing those who shelled out some real money, under the bus.
The only good lining from this latest news is that Serato DJ should soon be available to all you suckers who paid good money for the NS6, NS7, DDJ-S1 and other itch based controllers. Yes we agree, nice holiday present from Serato.

Update: imixmag is sad to report the sudden and tragic death of Serato itch. Itch has served us well and will continue to do so in its spirit form of 2.2.2. Itch is survived by its father Serato Scratch Live and baby brother Serato DJ Intro. Before Itch’s demise, its organs were donated to help bring to life Serato DJ. While we mourn itch’s demise we celebrate the new life and beginning of Serato DJ. We can only hope Serato DJ surpasses the expectations left by itch. Viewing hours will be held 24 hours a day at serato.com
Two at last, two at last, God almighty two at last. Yes, if you have a four deck controller, like the NS6, you will now have the option to view in two deck mode. It’s been a request of many NS6 users and it’s finally here in version 2.2.2.
Another “about time” update is support for Mac OS X Lion. There’s more to the update so go check it out in the official Serato Itch website.
In the United States the media giants in radio and T.V. make it almost impossible for new independent artist
to get exposure. And with the removal of the "Just Added" feature in Apple’s Itunes music store it is nearly impossible for customers to find your tracks unless they have the tittle of the song.
imixmag finds the suffocation of creativity in the United States to be deplorable. We
will do our best to offer independent DJs, Remixers, Producers and artist exposure. Feel free to send
us an email with your Soundcloud, Youtube, or links to other virus free websites with your work.

If you’re in the market for an entry level DJ controller there are many to choose from.
For years Numark dominated the market and lately Pioneer DJ has punched hard into it. Now enters Denon DJ with their MC2000 controller.
Since we yet to have one in our hands we’ll just go into the major good and bad points of the unit.
The good points:
Price. At a rumored $299 U.S. street price the price may be right for entry level DJs on a budget.
The bad points:
Serato DJ Intro. Unless there’s an upgrade to this software its limitations make it
one of the weakest entry level DJ software’s’ from the top dogs. Denon would have done better bundling it with Virtual DJ LE – at least you can upgrade that.
Preliminary conclusion:
Even though this is one of the most inexpensive
controllers, the limitation of what it offers may make it
prudent to save a couple of more dollars for one which will offer more.

Being creative and having the balls to do what you want to do and not giving a shit what other people think is probably one of the
biggest keys to truly enjoying life. Such is the case with DJ M!X from Denmark who has created a YouTube page of himself rocking
some hot mixes while wearing a customized Saw mask. He isn’t the first DJ to dawn a funky mask and DJ but he definitely stands out as a creative
individual; even you have to admit this is one awesome photo of him in the elements.

Picking out the best DJ Controller of 2011 wasn’t easy. It came down to which DJ Controller allowed one to be the most creative and had the best hardware layout for easy functionality.
At the end the Pioneer DDJ-ERGO-V came out ahead of the pack. Its revolutionary design and compact size set a new high standard for
DJ Controllers. Even though it did win we have to warn that the Ergo is probably a firmware update away of being totally stable. But the
foundation of this unit and Pioneer DJ’s reputation of excellence make this a DJ Controller to behold.

DJ CHOPPS
08/13/2011
You’ve seen it before, there’s a contest, and one group or person clearly is the best performer. But at the end of it all the winner is someone who clearly wasn’t deserving. Our choice of BEST EXHIBIT ROOM DJ leaves the usual politics and the bullshit out the door and only comes down to raw skill which is exactly what everyone witnessed from DJ CHOPPS.
Check out a short video clip of DJ Chopps and witness for yourself.
If you’re a mobile DJ then you’re definitely going to need a hard flight case to protect that sexy Pioneer DDJ ERGO.
Have no fear, the Odyssey FRERGO should be available early January. Weight 14 lbs, street price, $179.

The winner of the first imixmag sweepstakes took no time in claiming his Kontrol X1 prize. Being from NYC, Krazy Dimitri opted to pick up his prize instead of having it mailed to him.
A new sweepstakes will be announced in a few weeks. The best way to keep updated with imixmag is to “Like” us on Facebook. Details will be announced through Facebook.
Where it all started for imixmag.com
04/03/2011 (pushed up)
Many think we came up with the name imixmag because of Apple’s imac or ipod line. Well, we actually came up with the imix name around
1994 and came out with our first real paper magazine in 1995; the first imac wasn’t introduced until 1998, that’s around three years before
we started things up.
The photo above is of a 1996 issue, it was twelve pages and printed in black & white and on high gloss paper.
01/23/2012
Forget about 2011, the American DJ Micro Galaxian is probably the best bang for your dollar DJ light within the last ten years; if not ever. Its compact size and wow factor make this the best DJ light for mobile DJs and small to medium size venues. And at a price of $99 you should be ashamed if you don’t already have one.

Video review coming soon
A pad pad here and a pad pad there, here a pad there a pad everywhere a pad pad. Yes, 2013 is definitely the
year of pads on DJ Controllers. So much is the case that if you look at a new DJ Controller release which doesn’t
have pads the one word which comes to mind is, OLD. Numark has gone as far as putting pads on their whole new DJ
Controller line. Yes my friends, it’s a pademic. Be prepared for the weird looks when you pull out your old DJ
Controller without pads and people stare you down as if you just lip sang at the Presidential inauguration. So do
yourself a favor and get your pad on before the new trend mongers rip you apart.
Are you really a DJ if you use the SYNC button to mix your music? This question always brings on a heated debate between those who do and those who don’t. And like all discussions the answer usually lands somewhere in the middle, which is exactly where this one lands, dead smack in the middle. So instead of looking at the negatives of both arguments, let’s focus on the positives and see how they can enhance your DJing.
Using SYNC
The Sync feature is function within your DJ software which automatically beat matches one deck to others and can be used to increase the creativity of your
mixes. This is especially true of four track DJ controllers where you can have a mix going, hit the SYNC button and throw in a loop
or another mix and keep building on. You can also have a mix already going, put it in SYNC and concentrate on the exiting the mix in
a dramatic fashion with either an echo, delay, roll out loop, or a combination of some or all the functions available in your software
and hardware arsenal.
In essence syncing frees you to use all the features available at your disposal and will definitely add more dynamics to your DJ set.
By ear
If you can dance or carry a rhythm, you can mix by ear and learning how to do so isn’t that difficult. What’s great about
being able to do it by ear is how you’ll have the skill to listen to a song and without hesitation know what songs go with it. This is
a very important component to DJing and is almost necessary in advancing to the remix and production world. So having the ear to mix allows
your mind to come up with scenarios in your set which aren’t restricted to selecting tracks which you choose based on the BPM numbers your DJ software formulates.
Use it all to become a better you
Using the SYNC and other available features doesn’t make you less of a DJ, they enhance the possibility of
making you more. They allow you to be a composer of music with all the technological advancement and gives you
the tools and creative freedom to redefine what a modern DJ is and the endless possibilities of what a future DJ can be.
ERGO REVIEW UPDATE
The Ergo has been out for a while however there have been many updates and changes to the DJ Software which
supports it, in some instances drastic. So we have updated our review in our dedicated Pioneer DDJ ERGO page.
Itunes 11 is a DJ software hater
We always recommend waiting a few weeks before any new update is released. This is especially true when major changes are announced.
This was the case with itunes 11. Apple announced major changes so we expected problems to arise with DJ software, and they did. Reports of problems with DJ software are everywhere.
In defense of Serato and all the other big boys, they do not recommend using itunes with your DJ software. But in defense of itunes we have to admits, it’s one of the easiest ways to keep your playlist organized.
Hopefully updates will follow to have your favorite DJ software work in unison with the latest version of itunes.
What are the new features, what will it cost, and when will it be available
for your DJ Controller. We sum it up on our dedicated Serato DJ page.
Itch is dead. Serato DJ will be Serato’s new professional software for controllers. Besides bug fixes Serato itch will end with version 2.2.2.
Serato DJ will be a whopping $199 to upgrade from DJ Intro. Serato DJ Intro is free and is available for low priced entry level DJ Controllers such as the Pioneer DJ ERGO and the Numark N4, both which go for $499. Add the upgrade of $199 and you’re looking at a price of $698. Luckily these DJ Controllers have other options besides this. At this upgrade price you’re better off purchasing a more expensive controller which includes full blown DJ software, or opting for Traktor Pro 2 ($89) or Virtual DJ (starting at $49).
If you have an itch based DJ Controller like the Numark NS6 and NS7, you’ll get a free uprade to Serato DJ which will also include a free version of Serato Video-nice.
So what do we think?
Yes we agree, the upgrade from Serato DJ Intro to Serato DJ is overpriced. We can’t imagine many entry level DJs opting to pay $199 for an upgrade when they can get Traktor Pro 2 for only $89. Unless Serato can convince these DJs that Serato DJ is way better than Traktor ($110 better to be exact) this price will surely mean the death of Serato DJ Intro based controllers. Our prediction, you’ll definitely see an upgrade price drop within 6 month to a year.
If you have the NS6, NS7 or any other itch based DJ controller, the move to Serato DJ is an easy decision but you can say goodbye to free major updates. Yes, minor updates and bug fixes will be free however they will probably charge for major updates.
Name team comes up blank.
Couldn’t Serato come up with a better name than Serato DJ? It’s just so freaking plain. Since it’s the next level of itch couldn’t they call it Serato Scar or Serato Gash?
What’s in a name anyway? The bottom line is Serato DJ needs to offer more bang for the buck than itch. Soon we shall hear what the all new effects offer. Soon we will see the new midi mapping options available. And soon we shall taste either the sweet path to the next level of Serato or the sour taste of paying for a repackaged Serato itch.
If Batman were a DJ he would use this.
Pioneer DJ will be the first to release a Controller designed specifically for Serato DJ. The Pioneer DDJ-SX will coincide with the release of Serato DJ in November. The rumored price is $1,199 U.S. dollars and given all the features it offers Pioneer seems to be going after the market it lost to the Numark NS6 and NS7. It even has the same metallic look of the NS6. Never thought Pioneer DJ would emulate a Numark design; my how things have changed. Regardless, the DDJ-SX is the most impressive looking feature packed DJ controller released by Pioneer DJ. Pioneer doesn’t need to produce those fake DJ videos to promote this unit, this bad boy is feature packed and will sell itself.
Is it ever too much? Does it ever go into overkill? Do you always need the latest? When it
comes to technology sometimes offering advanced features may seem thrilling, but just how practical are they.
Let’s take the new Pioneer CDJ 2000 NEXUS. While it does have these awesome looking editing features, they
aren’t anything you can’t accomplish with most DJ Controllers and your DJ software. So while you may feel over
impressed with the video the reality is that you can do all of that with a Controller that cost less than its price.
How about the XDJ AERO? Now this is cool. Now you can DJ a Wedding while playing a game of paintball at the
same time. All you need to do is sync your smartphone with the AERO and off you go to do more important things
than DJ in front of your system. By the way, you’ll need a Wi-Fi router to run things; not included in the box.
Yes innovation is cool and amazing and sometimes we end up buying things we don’t need,
have no practical use at all but simply buy because of want; just look at all those Apps you don't use on your smartphone.
And when it comes to the world of DJing things aren’t any different. The videos may have the wow factor, but when it
comes down to using them in the real world they really don’t have much of a place. This is nothing you should worry your head about. With price of $2399 U.S. dollars per CDJ 2000 Nexus unit, it’s not something Pioneer DJ expected a non-superhero DJ like yourself to purchase. And it’s no one’s fault but your own that you don’t have your own Satellite Wi-Fi system to keep yourself from buying the $1199 XDJ AERO system – shame on you.
PIONEER DJ puts out a great video.
Oh, and the DDJ-WeGo to go with it.
At $399 U.S. retail, the Pioneer DDJ-WeGo is definitely aimed at young start up DJs. The video below does
an outstanding job of doing just that. Make sure to check out the whole video, it gets better as it goes along.
Official Pioneer DDJ-WeGo video.
Our 2012 DJ EXPO wrap up is coming soon. Change is in the air...
Apple Itunes music store no longer allows for freedom of choice.
07/02/2012
While many DJs fret using the Itunes store to purchase music, the fact remains it’s one of the most economic and easiest way to search, find, and purchase music; that was until Apple removed the “Just Added” feature from the itunes store. You see this itunes feature was the equivalent of searching a crate of just released alphabetically organized music and could be done by choice of genre.
The “Just Added” link is there however it now takes you to a page which resembles album thumbnails of a few selected releases that seem to be handpicked by Apple; nothing close to the hundred or so songs which were listed every Tuesday as newly released music.
Efforts by us as well as others have resulted in absolutely no response from the itunes support team. We aren’t sure whether Apple is in the middle of overhauling the “Just Added” feature or if they are simply doing away with it.
What if it’s true? What if Apple is no longer allowing users to freely browse through all the music available? What if Apple will only allow users to view and purchase songs which Apple themselves choose? Imagine that, the largest music and media store on the planet with a stronghold of what music is available to purchase. We can only hope Apple does not stifle the same artistic creativity and freedom that their products, software and online store have grown to represent.
Price drop on the America DJ Micro Royal Galxian.
$149 = Awesome!!!
The American DJ Micro Galaxian, which retails for $99, was our choice for best light of 2011. With the ability of its green and red lasers creating amazing effects in any given room it simply was the best light for the money in recent history. This year American DJ released the Micro Royal Galaxian which offered blue laser lighting. Yes it was nice to have blue lasers however many paused at its price of $199. Well pause no more; American DJ has dropped the price to $149, a more reasonable price for the luxury of blue. Don’t you think?
The New 13" Macbook Pro line has the power to kick ass
and USB 3 ports.
Now that USB 3 has finally landed on the Macbook Pro line it will probably be
just a matter of time before DJ Controllers are built to take advantage the
faster speed of USB 3; very exciting news indeed. USB 3 is
backwards compatible so USB 2 devices will be supported.
The new 13” have the same look of the previous models but pack more power and better integrated graphics.
Since the 13” Macbook Pro is the most common one used by mobile DJs, most will be very pleased with the powerful
specs of the newly released 13” line. We usually recommend the 13” entry level
however the price and specs of the $1499 model make it the best choice.
The $1199 entry level 13” Macbook Pro:
2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz) with 3MB L3 cache, 4GB of 1600MHz DDR3 memory, and a 500GB 5400-rpm hard drive.
The $1499 higher end 13” Macbook Pro:
2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 4MB L3 cache, 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 memory, and a 750GB 5400-rpm hard drive.
Both 13” models have two USB 3 ports, integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000, and yes, they come with the CD/DVD 8x SuperDrive.
Dance Music Proves to be #1.
Just ask Rihanna
From all the hits ever recorded by Rihanna, and there are plenty, her worldwide bestselling
hit is none other than “We Found Love”, which as we all know is a Vocal Dance Track. “We
Found Love” was written and produced by DJ, remixer, producer, songwriter, and artist Calvin Harris which
also has his own Dance hit “Feel So Close.” So when we say DJs Make it Happen, it's a fact.
THIS IS FREAKING AMAZING.

Inspiring piano rendition to “Live Your Life”
by Emmanuel "Pianist" Stanleys
01/28/2011
The beauty of music, and those that create it, is its ability to constantly evolve. Case in point, “Live Your Life” feat Shawnee
Taylor by Erick Morillo and Eddie Thoneick, it’s incredible on its own, but the beauty of that song inspired Emmanuel "Pianist" Stanleys to
throw down with his own freestyle. In our opinion it makes “Live Your Life” even more inspirational. Hit the image below to check it out through Youtube.
